16 Year Old Me

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

I stumbled upon this little gem today. A video my younger brother, Tyler and I made 6 years ago. I was 16 and he was 12. We had just moved to Montana from Oregon. That was one of the toughest transitions for me. In Oregon I had a super close knit group of friends that I did everything with. When I moved to Montana right before my junior year of high school I had the hardest time making friends!  I would consider myself a pretty bubbly, outgoing person, but I just couldn't seem to connect with anyone! I had a couple friends at church but I really didn't do much outside outside of church or school.
As a result I spent lots of time with my brothers which was really fun. Hard to believe Tyler is now 6'1 and a Senior in High School! My little guy is growing up. ;)

Okay here I go embarrassing myself, enjoy!

What were you like in High School? In what ways have you changed?

Halloween Grinch

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Is it okay to admit that I'm not a huge fan of Halloween? Sure I loved it as a kid. You dress up in darling miniature sized costumes and trick-or-treat door to door.

Now that im in my 20's I'm just not a huge fan! I can't even really remember the last time I dressed up besides maybe throwing on something real quick for a church party. I hate that Halloween for adults has turned into dressing up as the "slutty version" of whatever. I'm also not a huge fan of scary, gory, creepy, things, so that certainly doesn't help.

It is fun to decorate your home with some cute Fall decorations though. This year I really didn't do much. Maybe because the paint in our new apartment is orange so it already felt like Halloween. We do have one decoration! A little fall wreath. I hung it on the inside of our door instead of the outside because I was afraid it would get stolen in our downtown apartment. Ha!

I happened to stumble upon this picture from my 2nd year of college. I think we were dressed up as 80's models or something. Actually, I don't think this was even Halloween. I think we were just being funny 18 year old girls. But I'll still let you enjoy this silly picture.

What is your favorite part of Halloween? Do you go all out? What are your favorite traditions?

Costco Bruises

Saturday, October 27, 2012

You know those boxes of milk at Costco? That have 2 gallons of milk in them? So the other day I leaned over to pick one up and then stood up straight and smacked my head on the metal framing above it. I then of course ducked down really quickly out of pain and proceeded to smack my chin on the 2 gallon box of milk. I guess I did it pretty hard because I have a bruise on my chin and a whole bunch of broken capillaries! Lets give a round of applause to this talented girl right here!

Eye Creme

Eye Creme

You mean the stuff that you start using in your 40's? Absolutely not! Hop on the bandwagon now! It is MUCH easier to prevent a problem than to try and correct it. Here's the scoop on what an eye creme actually does.
  • The skin around your eyes is some of the thinnest skin on your body. Add that to the fact that you blink over 10,000 times a day and that will tell you why the eyes are the first place to develop wrinkles.
  • An eye creme is a very thick formula packed with moisturizing properties. Because of this, an eye creme is also great to wear to keep eyelids hydrated to improve the appearance of your eye makeup.
  • Ingredients found in eye cremes do much more than just help with wrinkles. They help to diminish redness, treat dark circles around the eyes, moisturize, smooth fine lines, and reduce the appearance of puffiness.
One of my Favorites
Aveda Green Science Firming Eye Creme

I used this on a regular basis on my facial clients. It was always a huge hit! Here are my favorite things about it:
  • Although it is pretty spendy ($47 for 15ml) it will last you forever! I used this on over 100 clients and only used up about half of my jar.
  • It's filled with awesome ingredients
    • Organic Cactus-stimulates collagen production
    • Buckwheat Wax-reduces the appearance of puffiness
    • Lady's Thistle-softens skin, moisturizes, fades fine lines
    • Argan Oil-soften dry skin, moisturize

Skinny Arms

Thursday, October 25, 2012

I am now OFFICIALLY Kelsey Eaton.
New SS Card
New Drivers License
New Insurance Card
It's amazing how much of a hassle it is to get all of that done!
Now don't make fun of my signature. I CANNOT write on those little machines for the life of me. Oh and yes I know I weigh as much as a 12 year old. :(

P.S
I got a flu shot yesterday and it is still super sore! The cutest little asian lady gave me the shot. After I rolled up my sleeve she started laughing and pointed at my arms and gawked at how skinny they are. She said it will make me a cute pregnant lady someday.
Let's hope.
Come on arms, make me cute!

8 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Me

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

  • I flip through magazines from the end to the beginning, I had never really thought about it until a few years ago when someone commented on it.

  • I go through stages of being incredibly outgoing and incredibly shy. This is probably pretty typical of a lot of people but I find it so interesting that sometimes I can be super talkative and outgoing and other times quiet and very subdued in a similar situation.

  • When I was 12 my younger brother and I were playing around with a steel coiled dog leash. I clipped it to his pants and it came loose and shot back and hit me in the mouth making a big bloody mess. I looked in the mirror and found that my front tooth had been broken in half. We brought the piece of tooth to the dentist and he glued it on and it is still there today, 10 years later!

  • I love playing the flute. I've played since I was in 6th grade. I have only played a few times these past few years due to living in cramped apartments. I love when I do get the chance though. It's amazing how quickly it all comes back!

  • I don't like hamburgers. The all-american food? No thank you. I think I really only like meat when it has a ton of seasonings in it so you can't taste the "meatiness" of it.

  • I was super blonde for about 3 weeks my senior year of high school.
  • My freshman year of college I realized I do strange things in my sleep. My roommates caught me making juice, spraying my hair with water until it was drenched, opening all the cupboards in the kitchen, all in my sleep! Now I just mumble things, laugh, and ask my husband questions. Apparently the other night I asked him if monkeys are marsupials. He told me that they weren't. I then asked if people are marsupials. He said no. He told me that kangaroos and koala bears are. I said we better double check that and woke up to find myself on my phone googling marsupials.
All you BYU-Idaho people may recognize this. Beaver Bash at Beaver Dick Park. What a horrendous name!

  • I've never had a nose bleed. Never broken a bone, sprained anything, etc. I really live life on the edge. ;)

Oliver!

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Tonight Tim and I had a lavish night out on the town. We went out to dinner and to the theatre. We really just went to Ihop and had free tickets to a play, courtesy of our dear friend Tom, but nonetheless it was great!

We saw "Oliver!" at the Hale Center Theatre. I was really impressed. I just wanted to take all those sweet little orphan boys home with me. Who couldn't love a bunch of little boys singing and dancing with their cute little British accents.

We tried to take a picture of ourselves so we have some photo documentation of our first few years of marriage but as you can see it didn't turn out so well. That's the problem when there are only two of you...you end up with a bunch of arm length shots of just your heads. At least our future children will know what our faces looked like! ;)

Tricky Stuff!

Monday, October 22, 2012

I finally figured out how to make a button for my blog. I guess being sick all week paid off. I have tried numerous times and could never figure it out. All you bloggers amaze me with your talents. I feel like you have to be a graphic designer in order to be a blogger nowadays! Ha!

Anyways, go grab a button to put up on your blog and I'll be sure to grab yours to display on mine as well!

Not So Romantic Dates

Thursday, October 18, 2012

Last night my husband an I were talking about some of the dates we went on when we were dating. A story came up that I just had to share because I find it super funny/embarrassing. What could be better?

Almost every Sunday we made a big yummy dinner together at his apartment. We had just finished eating and we started playing this game we made up. You hold your arms up in the air and then stand on one leg and we jump around and try to knock the other person over. (Cheap entertainment at best!)

Anyways, Tim picked me up and started spinning me in circles. (I am NOT the roller coaster type. I haven't been able to swing on a swing set since the 4th grade.) I start hitting his arm as hard as I could. He thought I was just teasing an playing so he spins me faster! (I vomited but kept my mouth closed as to try to appear somewhat like a lady TMI? Sorry.) Finally I smacked him and jumped away and ran into the bathroom.

So romantic.

The Flu

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

I've got the flu. At least I think so. Headache, earache, runny nose, chills, vomiting, achy body, sore throat, the works! Not fun I'll tell ya. That's what I get for putting off getting a flu shot.

This morning I walked over to Smith's to get some medicine and load up on cough drops and Gatorade.
I threw on some sweats and glasses and headed out on my way. A couple guys were yelling my way trying to get my attention. I ignored them and kept walking but then they yelled, "how do you get to state street?" I told them to go 7 blocks west and then kept walking and then they yelled, "why was Piglet looking in the toilet? Because he was looking for Pooh." Ha ha...I seem to always attract strange long haired dirty smelly teenage boys looking to annoy someone. My mom always has men telling her stupid stuff too. I guess we have the "go away and mess with me" kind of look.

In other news, I had another cardiology appointment yesterday. It seems like every time I go I figure out another piece to the puzzle.

Often times I feel a lot of chest pain an tightness, like someone is sitting on my chest or squeezing my heart. He said that this can be attributed to my small chest cavity. He said because I have such a small frame it can put pressure on the heart.

Apparently my heart is not designed to do any vigorous and resistance type exercise. He said right now I should only be walking and swimming. I am definitely not a swimmer. I don't even really like going in water where I can't touch. Ha Ha! Don't make fun. I guess that explains why my heart rate shoots up to 200 bpm when I get on a bike.

He also said I had a bit of scoliosis. What?? What was the point of going to those scoliosis tests every year when I was young. Oh well, slight curvature of the spine...I can handle that.

The earliest we will shoot to do another cardiac ablation is April.

For all you out there reading this that have had ablations, how many cardiologists did you see? Did you get more than 1 opinion? I'm not sure if I should see another doctor to see what they think.

Our 1st Apartment

Saturday, October 13, 2012

I finally got around to taking some pictures of our apartment. I thought some of our out of town friends and family would like to see it. I'm definitely not showcasing it as "cutesy" and I know it doesn't match.  A lot of things are second hand and used but we're newlyweds that's how it should be!

Living Room from front door

Eating area from living room (I spot a handsome husband!)

Itty bitty little kitchen. As you can tell there is no opening the oven or dishwasher if you need to get by ;)

Newlyweds

Friday, October 12, 2012

Tim came in the kitchen to find me looking like this.

What a lucky man. I just chopped about 5 inches off my hair and am realizing that I can't pile it all on top of my head anymore. Instead it's turning into a "mullet-bun."

Tim has been put to work assembling yet another piece of... furniture? Can you call this metal stand a piece of furniture?

Brownies & Door Knockers

Today I decided to make some brownies for one of Tim's coworkers and his wife who just moved here from India. I have no idea if they will like caramel brownies, but I know I LOVE them so I hope they do too!

I pulled them out of the oven and they were looking so awesome.

I let them sit for a while to cool and came back to this!!
At least they still taste like heaven in a bite.

I have no idea why but the sound of door knockers scare me to death. It just reminds me of a scary movie or haunted house. I want to rip the stupid thing off my front door so people will knock. Maybe it is because we live in a brick apartment. The noise when the knocker thuds against the door is creaky and loud and echoey. Just awful.

As you can see our apartment is all decked out for halloween. Too bad it is Halloween ready 365 days out of the year. Haha!

I love when people come into our apartment. They look around and I just now they are thinking, "why did they paint the whole thing bright orange?!"

We didn't. Don't worry.

Right Outside My Window

Thursday, October 11, 2012

A rather small in stature Asian man is digging through our dumpster. He has all sorts of tools for poking around and getting stuff out of there. I wonder if he sells the stuff. Who knows?

It seems every time I go to the mailbox there are always men out there smoking who try to strike up a conversation.

All day long we hear a dog running across the floor in the apartment above us. I'm too afraid to say anything to our landlord because the lady who lives there is a BEAST. She could beat me up with her pinky.

Right now there is a man screaming like Tarzan while several dogs are howling. I don't even know what to think of that.

Tim introduced me to Parks & Rec a few days ago and now we watch an episode on Netflix every day after dinner. I am always down for a few good laughs.

I've spent at least 100 hours studying for my Master Esthetician state licensure test. I went and took the test today and didn't pass by 2 points. 2 points out of 110. I walked into that testing thinking that I would OWN that test. That test was dang hard. Well, now I have another month of staying at home going crazy. (They require you to wait 30 days before you retake it.)   Heaven help me!

My heart is acting crazy again. It's really hard to explain. It's like a mixture between feeling like it is in someone's hand being squeezed super tight and an elephant sitting on my chest.

Tim and I have been talking and I have been doing tons of research and I think I am going to pursue attempting a 2nd cardiac ablation. I am meeting with the infamous Dr. Chun Hwang on Monday and we will see if the pro's outweigh the cons.

Right now it seems that the Pro's are: return to normal activity, less fatigue, possibly get my appetite back, no abnormal missed beats, heart rate would return to a normal level, no more medication. Cons: Because the area of my heart that is misfiring is nudged up close to my heart's natural pack maker, if the procedure is not done with exact preciseness I would have to be on a pace maker for the rest of my life.

We will see how things go I suppose. If any of you readers out there have any experience with catheter cardiac ablation, atrial tachycardia, or even anything closely related let me know! I'm just fishing for more info!

Yoga

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

I just got back from my first yoga class ever. Well I guess I took one before in college but I couldn't stop giggling over my horrible balance so I think I left early.

Let's just say things went a little better this time, but it was way harder than I had anticipated! I was definitely feeling the burn. I was seriously so impressed with the older ladies who could hold poses like a champ and twist and contort themselves and stay there forever.

I learned that I'm not very good at closing my eyes in public. I can't even really close them during prayers, I end up just burying my face. Also I have no idea what to think about when they say to take a moment and think of all that you are or something like that. Interesting experience though.

Having a gym membership is probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me. It has been so fun to go every day when Tim gets off work. Thank goodness for our awesome insurance that reimburses us for working out!

Food Obsessions

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

I always seem to go through "food fads." I will constantly CRAVE something and then get totally burned out on it out of nowhere. Except for Cafe Rio salads. That will never go out of style. Anyways, last spring I was on a lemon water kick but then it slowly simmered out.

This past week limes have been on sale so I bought a whole bunch and have been LOVING lime water! O my goodness I cannot even tell you what a treat it is. You just have to try it.

I always knew that lemon water was great for cleansing your system as well as awesome for your kidneys. I just did a little research and many even would say that limes are more nutritious than the lemon. Limes are high in calcium, iron, phosphorous, and vitamins a & c. These vitamins all help to fight off heart disease, inflammation, and cancer. Heck yeah! Not too much limes are super cheap! Drink up :)

The Day I Got Hit By a Car

Friday, October 5, 2012

Tim and I went on our date night tonight. We had a super yummy dinner at P.F Changs and then headed over to the dollar theatre to see a movie. Tim dropped me off in the parking lot and he drove off to find a parking spot. I was crossing the parking lot when I looked over and saw a car coming. I looked straight at her and then WHAM! She ran right into me! I slapped my hands on the hood of her car and then down I went. I laid there for a second then got up and just looked at her all confused. Before I could say anything a lady that saw it all happen runs over and starts chewing the lady out.

I just stood there while this lady ripped the lady in the car a new one. The lady in the car said she couldn't see me because the sun was in her eyes. We ask her to pull over and come over and talk to me and then she just speeds off! Crazy woman!!!

A police officer happened to be at the theatre so he came over and ran the report and then he said he had to call an ambulance to check me out.

The ambulance came over and I had to get in and they checked my vitals etc. A bit embarrassing while all the people in line at the theatre were watching.

There were a lot of people outside the theatre that saw what happened to they got her license plate number. The police officer sent a detective out to go find her and give her a hit and run ticket.
What. A. Night.

Milkshakes, Big Butt's, & Boys in the Yard

Thursday, October 4, 2012

Tonight Tim suggested we go out and get a milkshake. After thinking it over for about .00348 seconds I decided it was a good idea. Just so you know the hot fudge brownie milkshake from Hires Big H in Salt Lake is pretty good amazing! Word for the wise though- don't get the onion rings. We got those once before and they were awful! They tasted like doughnuts with a shriveled tiny onion inside. They were all sweet and sugary. You can even tell in the picture, just wrong.

So anyways, this place is one of those drive up places. So we drove up and placed our order. The gal who took our menu assured us that the brownie hot fudge milkshake was THE best but that she couldn't have it anymore. Then walked away. Ok....? So we spent the next few minutes guessing why she couldn't have it anymore.
Lactose intolerant?
Celiac?
It would go straight to her thighs?
She was caught sneaking one?

We then proceeded to play name that tune. The songs I chose to hum were all disney songs and Tim's were, I like big butt's and I cannot lie, my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, etc. Ha!
I love date night!
Oh and can I please share this with you? Tim and I could not stop laughing.

Enjoy :)

Cheap Haircut

I got my haircut yesterday after fighting with it for weeks. I would wake up in the morning with it tangled into a mess and it would even get super tangled in the shower. I decided it was about time for a change anyways so I just walked down the street, into a salon Great Clips (hey I'm cheap! Hubby loves it) and off it went! Kind of exhilarating. :)

In other news, our apartment is freeeeezing!!

Our apartment is half way underground so it's bound to get chilly. I never thought it would begin so soon though! I checked the thermostat this morning and it was 59 degrees in our apartment! Let's just say my studying was done under a pile of blankets with multiple layers on. I hope it doesn't get too chilly in the winter. I guess that'll just give me an excuse to drink lots of hot chocolate and bake lots of treats ;)
