Christmas: Apartment Style

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

I feel like there has barely been any time to get into the Christmas spirit with so much studying to do and a new job to start but last night we finally decided to take a break and go grab a Christmas tree! Since we are a bit late in the year the tree selection was not the greatest. We looked through the dead depressing little trees piled around for $20-30 and were not impressed.

We ended up seeing this cute little Norfolk Island Pine and decided we had to take it home! I also loved that it was still alive so we could keep it until we ended up killing it like most of our plants all year long! It was also a huge plus that it came in a pot. Last year We realized our little tree didn't have a hole drilled into it to put in our ancient tree stand so I thought it would be a great idea to try to chisel a hole into the trunk and ended up making a big bloody mess with my finger from the pocket knife.

^^ Is there anything better than a man in a suit with a Christmas tree? ^^

I finally feel like it is the Christmas season with our tree up, a few lights, and our nativity set up. We are going to the Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert this weekend and then the semester ends next weekend! Then we can finally enjoy Christmas in all it's glory!

^^ It may be small and dainty but we love it!^^

What do those of you in small homes/apartments do for Christmas? I don't have a ton of motivation to buy a bunch of decorations or even a fake tree because I hate the thought of lugging it all around throughout all of our moves until we end up owning a house someday.

  1. Exactly the reason we did not purchase a fake tree this year! They take up space in storage and who wants to move that around until we are settled...whenever that may be! I did attack the Target dollar section for small Christmas decor to put around the apartment. Anything to make it Christmas-y!

  2. The tree is so cute! We got a tiny little 2 footer this year since we won't be at home anyway and I didn't have room for a big one. Maybe next year :)

  3. We also have a potted Christmas tree. But this year it looks very very sad due to the dog ripping branches off, so it looks more like a weeping willow. Your tree is adorable.

  5. What a stellar idea! It's super cute -- I love it! I always grew up having a fake tree, and so did Trev, so buying a real tree every year doesn't even sound fun to me. :/

  6. Aww, I love your cute tree! :)

We don't have tons of decorations up either--I'm with you, I don't have any space to store them, so we don't have much. We usually borrow an extra fake tree from my in-laws, but we aren't putting it up this year. I'm pretty sure our crazy toddler would find a way to knock it over and kill all the ornaments and possibly himself. So we just aren't going to go there.

  8. I love the idea. it is so stinking cute!!! We got real trees when I was younger than my parents switched to a fake one. So last year in our apartment we got a real one and now we have a fake one! I would say where you don't have a ton to decorate yet, buy everything after Christmas so you get a killer deal! :) it will all add up eventually! :)

  10. I love your sweet tree! :)
My husband was dying for a "real" tree and I was the exact same way - "Where are we going to keep that?!" I finally caved and I must say, having lights and ornaments does add just the right amount of Christmas.

Congrats on being almost done for the semester! :)

  11. Such a cute little tree! I love it. My boyfriend was able to snag a little 4 ft tree for his apartment and we're decorating it this weekend, barelyyyy. So, you're not alone on being late in the game. :)

  12. If it makes you feel any better this time last year we were just moving into our house, we actually didn't get a tree until 3 days before Christmas Eve!

Good choice on the little tree BTW, if I were you I totally wouldn't buy a ton of decorations, like you said, just a pain to lug around with you when you move. Plus you don't know what kind of house you'll by and different decor just doesn't look right in some houses vs. others, so you kind of need to see what you have to work with before you make purchases.

  13. I love this. I feel the same, I always think I will just wait to full on decorate until I have a house! But this is perfect to just go small yet still festive :) twinkly lights never hurt either.. xo

  14. Ah, it's cute!!! Our first year married, we got our tree at Target for like $20 or $30 I think and every year I slowly add to our decor. That first year it as our tree and ornaments, last year I added more ornaments, a tree skirt, etc. Next year I'm going for a Nativity!! :)

  16. I love this! We got a real one too and have VERY FEW decorations on it. I agreed with you on the part we don't want to carry it around with us for the next few times we move!

  17. I still decorated in my apartment. We actually had a huge tree our first year of marriage. We own a home in Florida but live in a NYC apartment now and this year we didn't decorate because we are going to Florida for the holidays. I feel bad about if.
