How Attitude Can Change Everything

Saturday, August 10, 2013

My husband Tim and I were talking today about what a difference attitude makes in life. We really dove deep into the topic and it was pretty interesting to talk about to be honest.
When we first were married we complained to each other all the time that we didn't have any married friends. We loved being together but we were both craving interaction with other people. Granted, our ward congregation at church was pretty much comprised of a nursing home. That didn't help the situation. We decided to make a bigger effort once we moved to our current apartment and our attitude made all the difference! We went out of our way to invite people to go do things and made it a priority to be outgoing and introduce ourselves. After some time we started getting invited to do more things with other couples and our social calendar if much more busy than it was before! We met some amazing friends who we have become great friends with.
I've decided that everyone wants to be invited to go and do things but nobody wants to be the one to instigate things. I have tried to make an effort to branch out and try to include as many people as I can, even if they say no. It always feels good to be invited.

  1. I think that's a great goal and so true!!! :) We're getting ready to move and I've been thinking about this because we have really loved our ward and the friends that we made and now we're starting over. :P

  2. This is so true! and it applies to many different aspects of life. Even just changing your attitude when you think you're having a "bad day" can turn things around. When I hear people complaining I just think about all the things we are blessed with that others don't have an it makes those complains so petty.

I'm so glad you all have found a great group of friends to connect and be social with! :)

  3. Great post! My boyfriend and I feel as tho we have fallen out of social loops lately and I find it is because a lot of my old friends have fallen into other social circles through their hobbies and we probably havn't been making the effort lately too. This post reminds me that we need to go out of our way a bit more to socialise :)

  4. It does always feel good to be invited, even if you don't want to go. It's the fact that someone was thinking of you and extended the invite. A change in attitude really can make a world of difference. It sounds so cliche but positivity DOES breed positivity.

  5. So true. Pat and I were the only married ones out of our friends in the beginning. So proud of you to make the initiative to invite people. I need to work on that too!

  10. We've had a hard time making friends of our own age since getting married and living here, and you're right, that you have to have the attitude of hospitality and openness to take opportunities to be friendly if you want to make friends!
