I just got back from the OBGYN. Always a blast right? Actually it is. Especially since my doctor looks EXACTLY like Ann Perkins from Parks & Rec.

It also rocks because I get one tiny little shot and my birthing is controlled for a long time. A long old time. It is weird to think that even if I wanted to have a baby right now I couldn't until the year 2015. That is weird. Super weird.

So for those of you wondering, this is why I love Depo Provera shots...

It is completely covered by insurance which means it is cheaper than the pill.

I don't have to take it every day. One shot every 3 months and I am covered for 12-16 months.
If I get baby hungry there is nothing I can do about it until I have had a solid year to think about if we really are ready for a baby.

I no longer have periods that last longer than heck. I'm not even joking. 57 days. My body hated me.
In combination with physical therapy my endometriosis is totally under control. I can live life without taking my heating pad everywhere with me.

My husband probably appreciated me not ever PMSing.

I don't ever have to buy tampons. Budget friendly!

In all seriousness, it is awesome and I would highly recommend it to anyone suffering from anything womanly. You will thank me.

  1. How awesome is this?! I'm definitely suffering from womanly stuff. But I've got a question for you. Are those shots hormonal? Because if so, I can't take them. Unfortunately.

    2. amanda they are hormonal, if you want a non hormonal method your best luck would be with a copper iud.

  2. Girlllllll, so I actually have a weird birth control. Its an implant that I got that last 3 WHOLE YEARS and all I had to do was go to the dr once! HOLLA! One shot to numb and thats it, freak ya! It was also completely covered by my health insurance so I didn't have to pay anything. I haven't had really any issues, unless not really having a period is an issue. Ballin, I love it. However, nice thing is I can get it out whenever I want and then it would be like normal birth control where you don't have to wait a year, or after the 3 years i can just get another one put in, holla! My friend took the shots and had a really bad reaction and I hate shots so I avoided it, but glad it worked out for you.

  3. I have been looking into something like this, but am too lazy to call my insurance lol. The pill works great for me, except, uhhh.. I quite frequently forget to take it, hahaha. Last time I went to the obgyn, she told me that I "have a perfect cervix, the kind you would see in textbooks". I was like uhhh thanks I guess? LOL

  7. Why didn't you post this like 7 months ago?? ;) Haha. I have friends who do this shot, too. I think it has a lot of benefits, I'd just be scared that we'd suddenly want a baby and have to wait... ya know? But then, we obviously aren't good the whole BC thing ;)

  8. I'm glad this works for you but I hated it!!! I've been on the birth control pill and the pill didn't bother me. The Deop Provera shot made me spot for 3 months and I know this is TMI but I had NO sex drive. So bad in fact, that the thought of it made me ill..... I could not wait for that stuff to get out of my system!!! Maybe it's better now days.....

  9. I actually have this weird love for talking about things like birth control. So I find this super interesting! I avoided it because first off my husband is afraid of birth control, and not ever having a period seemed really unnatural, like maybe your body could "Forget" how to have babies. So we settled on Loestric (a pill). The only downside is I think it causes me acne... but no weight gain or anything like that. Maybe I"ll look into the shot though! Sounds like an awesome thing!

  11. I honestly love talking about BC options. I just switched to Mirena- one of the two IUDs and I love it so far, already no periods, light cramping and spotting the first week. Most periods disappear and complete protection, more so than NuvaRing which was what I had before. LOVE it! women have many options! and Planned Parenthood is a godsend~

  16. 57 days?!! Girl, I could cry for you! SO glad that's solved :) If I wasn't such a baby about shots I'd totally go for this option! I can't take the pills cuz I'm super forgetful haha I've just been on nuvaring lately.

  18. I am happy that you found a method that works for you! HOWEVER, I am not advised (by my doc) to get the shot because it can trigger depression and women who have suffered from depression shouldn't get that shot- which is me. I am ONLY telling you this because in case any woman wants to get the shot, I want them to be aware that this could happen to them. Depression can be severe and so you aren't supposed to get the shot if you've experienced it!. So. Im stuck with the pill for now! After I have my 3rd baby (NOT ANYTIME SOON!) I will get an IUD. I am SO SORRY that you had a 57 day period. Happened to my sister once too. HORRIBLE. So sorry, but so happy that you are HEALED! YAAAAAYYYYYYY!
