Endometriosis Update

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

As many of you know I have endometriosis and every day it is a pain in the butt. It makes me tired, it makes me irritable, and most of all it just hurts. My back aches and throbs every day and the pain wraps around to my right side and has a stabbing sensation. After trying just about every bc pill there is since I was 15, numerous depo and lupron provera injections anda laparoscopy I was left feeling discouraged because nothing was really working.

Last week my OBGYN referred me to a women's health physical therapist. I had no idea this existed! After getting their physical therapy degree these doctors go on to more school to learn all about helping women with pregnancy pain, pelvic pain, endometriosis etc. I met with the physical therapist yesterday and went over all my health history. She then felt around my lower abdomen and back while I did some different stretches. She found that I have a slight curvature in my spine and that was pulling on my right side causing the pain to be much worse than it should be. It was also pretty crazy that she could feel all the fluid above my pelvis from ruptured ovarian cysts and endometriosis cells. She taped up my back before I left to pull the muscles in the right direction and sent me on my way. I'm going to start meeting with her twice a week to see if we can help with some of the pain management. I'm so excited and I hope that this can help!

Have any of you with endometriosis tried physical therapy? Did you see much of an improvement?

  3. Being in pain everyday has to be rough. I'm so glad that you are finally finding something that might work. I have a question about Lupron injections as I'm considering it for something else. I'd love to find out if you have had any negative side effects. I've read a lot of horror stories when I've googled it...probably not the best idea.

  11. I have endometriosis. It has literally wrecked my life in more than one way. I have seen a pain management doctor, and it did not help at all. It helps your body for a temporary amount of time, but you do not keep up with it the pain will come back. it comes back even stronger and hurts even more. also the pain management doctors tend to put you on more medicines. they will most likely put you on ibuprofen or hydrocodone. this medicines are extremely addictive, because they literally take away the pain for LONG periods of time. The only problem is that these medicines cause stomach ulcers.I have taken both these types of medicines and now they are no longer effective. I have to go into the strong medicine categories. my doctors look at me as though i am a drug seeker. its sad.
