Sludge

Tim and I moved into a new apartment last week after getting evicted the city telling us that our landlords were violating zoning laws and that we had to move out ASAP.
Our new place is awesome but didn't include a washer and dryer so we did what any newlywed couple would do and looked online for a used washer and dryer because we are way too cheap to buy new ones. As long as they worked it didn't matter. Right?
Maybe.
I called up the number on the listing and the nice man said he would sell us his washer and dryer for $240 and he would even deliver and install them for us. What a steal!!

I made sure Tim got home from work early because, well have you ever seen the Craigslist Killer movie? I wouldn't suggest it. Ahh!

Anyways, he shows up with long flowing hair, black arms covered in grease, the longest finger nails I've ever seen, and a shirt with about a hundred huge holes in it. He then proceeded to pull the washer and dryer out of the back of his truck with no help. This guy was like Thor. We just stood there with our mouths open.
I handed him his cash and he was on his way. Within seconds our apartment reeked. It was so bad. I opened up the washing machine and gagged. It was full of animal hair, sludge, and who knows what else.
I wasn't about to waste $240 so I got to work cleaning. Hours later I was still cleaning. We decided to run a load with just bleach and water to see how we had done. Huge chunks of black nastiness started swirling around in the water and I knew I had my work cut out for me.
After using enormous amounts of antibacterial spray, goo gone, bleach, sos pads, and popsicle sticks to do the scraping the darn thing was finally clean. We ran another load and it was spotless!
Besides a few dents it is looking pretty good. So far both machines are running like champs and making my clothes clean so hallelujah!

  1. But think about how much money you saved by buying a used one. It looks really god now though!

  3. That guy should freaking be ashamed of himself but by the sounds of his appearance he clearly has no shame. That is terrible! I don't know if I could have handled cleaning it out. Glad to hear it wasn't a total waste.

  7. EW. We learned our lesson the hard way with used appliances! We bought a used fridge and it appeared to be really nice. Um.until we plugged it in. It reeked a horrible odor and didn't keep our food cold. So we had to buy a new one within a month. FAIL. :( I'm glad the washer ended up working for you though!!
